Our kennel, Wild Ridge Akitas, is located in Columbia, Missouri, half way between Kansas City and St. Louis north of I-70. Akitas have been a part of our family since 1985. With our breeding program we strive to preserve the Akita type combined with a sound body and temperament. Visitors to our kennel are always welcomed.

I grew up with English Setters and German Shepherds, both of which my father bred on a small scale. I owned a Skye Terrier before meeting my first Akita in 1973, while I was in college. That Akita was named "Moose" -- I loved that dog and knew I wanted an Akita then but had to wait until the time was right. My husband, John, and I bought our home in 1984, very soon after we had the opportunity to get our first Akita in 1985. September of 1988 brought our first Akita litter out of Teela Ridge's Moide Kuma "Moide", sired by CH Tamarlane's Willowdeen Aikon. Moide free-whelped that litter of 7 puppies in 4 hours, and was the best Mom ever. We kept "Kaze" and "Tadashi" out of that litter. Photos and more history can be found on our "Foundations" page.
